JERSEY CITY, N.J. (OCTOBER 14, 2006) - The William Paterson volleyball team (9-16, 0-6 NJAC) posted a 1-2 record at the NJCU Gothic Knights Invitational Oct. 14. Junior middle hitter Samantha Morgan (Cleafield, Pa./Clearfield) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

The Pioneers defeated Lehman 3-0 (30-18, 30-26, 30-14) in the first match of the day. Junior Michelle Banom (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) posted a match-high 12 kills, while Tamara Miller (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) had six kills and a team-best 11 digs. Junior Dana Hansen (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) had 20 assists, and Morgan collected five kills and three block solos for the Pioneers.

In the second match, WPU fought back from a 0-2 deficit, but later fell in five games to St. Joseph's Patchogue (25-30, 17-30, 30-27, 30-27, 13-15). Banom and junior Tasha DelVacchio (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) each collected 10 kills, and freshman Samantha Reed (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) posted 18 digs. Hanson and Briana MacDonald (South Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) shared setting responsibilities, collecting 14 and 10 assists, respectively.

William Paterson finished play with a 3-0 loss to NJCU (13-30, 22-30, 10-30). Banom and Miller again led the attack with five kills each. Hanson collected four kills and seven assists for the Pioneers.

"In the Lehman match I thought that we played very well," said WPU head coach Sandy Ferrarella. "St. Joe's got out to the 2-0 lead, but our team worked really hard to come back and hung tough, which I think says a lot about our players."
