Mary Lou Caraballo

Mary Lou (Rios) Caraballo is in her 10th season as William Paterson’s head women’s tennis coach in 2016.

For the last three years, Caraballo has mentored Brittany LaBruna, who is a 2013 and 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) all-American, a three-time New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year (2013-15) and the 2013 NJAC Rookie of the Year. LaBruna also joined Kristy Daubert on the 2013-14 and 2014-15 All-NJAC Doubles Teams.

During the 2012-13 campaign, the Pioneers registered their most successful season since the sport was reinstated on the WP campus, posting nine dual-match victories. William Paterson was led by Christina Puleo, a selection to the All-NJAC Singles Team, and she was joined by partner Samantha Miller on the 2012 All-NJAC Doubles Team.

In 2011-12, WP notched six dual-match victories as Puleo was an all-NJAC singles selection and she and Miller were conference all-doubles honorees.

Prior to coming to William Paterson, Caraballo worked with the North Bergen High School girls’ tennis team from 2001-07, including the last year as the program’s assistant coach, and served as an instructor at the Protuff Tennis Academy (2005-06) and the Steve Berger Recreational Tennis Camp (2002). She also has been the North Bergen bowling assistant (2006-09) and head (2010-present) coach, and also currently serves as the head coach of the boys’ tennis team (2015-present). Caraballo played singles and doubles each of her four seasons at Montclair State University (2001-05).

A mathematics teacher at North Bergen High School, Caraballo completed a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Montclair State in 2005, and a master’s degree at MSU in 2010.
