WAYNE, N.J. – Softball sophomore pitcher/designated player Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week April 27.

Vitale was 1-1 with a 1.02 ERA in three appearances last week (one start), allowing 11 hits and four runs (two earned) in 13.2 innings while striking out 15 hitters and walking two. She also hit .444 (8-18) at the plate, collecting three doubles, five RBI and two runs scored. Vitale came on and pitched the final 3.0 innings of an 18-2 win at Rutgers-Newark April 23, allowing two unearned runs while striking out five, and she also was 2-for-4 at the plate during the opener against the Scarlet Raiders, hitting a double, scoring a run and driving in three scores. She started the night cap at Rutgers-Newark and pitched 3.0 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four during an 8-0, five-inning win. At No. 16 Rowan April 25, she was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a RBI and a run scored during a 4-1 opening win. During the a 4-3, eight-inning loss during the second game, Vitale was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, and was the hard-luck loser inside the circle after throwing 7.2 effective innings of relief. The sophomore co-captain is 7-3 with a 1.76 ERA overall this season, and leads WP at the plate with 15 doubles and 33 RBI while ranking third with a .398 (41-103) batting average.
