WAYNE, N.J. – Softball freshman pitcher Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) was named William Paterson’s Pioneer of the Week for April 21.

Vitale posted a 1.40 ERA and 1-0 record in two appearances (one start, 10.0 innings) last week, and also hit .714 in seven at-bats (5-for-7, two runs, two RBI, double). The freshman righty threw 3.0 innings of relief in the second game at Kean April 15, followed by a 3-for-4 performance at the plate in an 8-0 win against John Jay April 17 with a RBI-double and two runs scored. Vitale finished the week by pitching a complete-game four-hitter for a crucial 5-0 win at Rutgers-Camden April 19. She faced three batters above the minimum, did not issue a walk and struck out three while helping her own cause with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a walk and a RBI.
