WAYNE, N.J. – After driving in eight runs and scoring another five as William Paterson softball went 3-1 last week, junior third baseman Christine Griffith earned the honor as the April 30 Pioneer of the Week.
 
The Upper Saddle River, N.J., native completed a week-long cycle, going 6-for-15 with a double, triple, grand slam, one walk and a pair of stolen bases.
 
Her biggest hit came as the Pioneers trailed Rutgers-Camden 7-3 in the fifth during game two of a doubleheader Tuesday, April 24. With the bags loaded, Griffith unloaded for a grand slam to centerfield. She appeared with the bases juiced once more in the inning but could not complete the historic feat as WP was catalyzed to victory, 13-5.
 
The junior tripled as part of a 3-for-4 game in a 7-1 win against New Jersey City April 28, tying senior left fielder Kara Molnar for the most triples in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. It also gave her and Molnar the most triples of any duo in NCAA Division III play.
 
Griffith and the Pioneers are the in the NJAC Tournament and will play either at one-seeded No. 25 The College of the New Jersey or at two-seeded No. 18 Rowan Tuesday, May. 1. The outcome of Ramapo and Rutgers-Newark’s doubleheader Monday, April 30, will determine WP’s first-round opponent.
