WAYNE, N.J.  – Freshman pitcher Sarah Byrnes has been a workhorse in the circle this season, and this week was no exception for the rookie righty as she earns the honor as the April 16 Pioneer of the Week.
 
Byrnes appeared in all four of WP’s games this week as the Pioneers went 4-0, sweeping doubleheaders against Montclair State, April 11, and at No. 18 Kean, April 14. All told, the Cherry Hill, N.J., native went 3-0, allowing only five earned runs in 18.2 innings, fanning 13 batters in a week that saw her throw 282 pitches.
 
The week opened with Byrnes earning wins in WP’s key, 2-1 and 5-4, victories against Montclair State. The freshman stranded the tying runner at third base in both of the games.
 
Byrnes improved to 13-4 on the year with a complete game, 5-4, win against No. 18 Kean in game one of the twin bill, stranding the tying run on the base once again. She responded with 1.2 innings or relief to seal up a 10-6 win in the second contest on the day.
 
William Paterson (19-7, 6-2) has three conference doubleheaders on the calendar this week, beginning with a twin bill at The College of New Jersey Wednesday, April 18 at 3:00 p.m.
