WAYNE, N.J. – Senior women’s swimmer Vera Blazevska (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) was selected as the Feb. 20 William Paterson Pioneer of the Week.
Blazevska capped off her career with a stellar showing at the Metropolitan Conference Championships Feb. 17-19 in Piscataway, N.J. Individually, she was second in the 200 breast A Final with a school-record time of 2:21.89, third in the 400 IM A Final (4:45.59) and fifth in the 100 breast A Final (1:06.37). She also helped the 200 free relay place sixth in the A Final (1:45.77), the 200 medley relay touch second in the B Final (1:53.84), and the 400 free relay finish fourth in the B Final (3:53.85).
For her efforts, Blazevska was named the winner of the Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference's Dick Krempecki Outstanding Senior Award at the conclusion of the championships. Given annually to an outstanding senior who has contributed the most to the Metropolitan Conference and to the sport of swimming, the award is named in honor of long-time St. John's head coach Dick Krempecki.
