Mike Jioia returned to the William Paterson sideline this fall to assist with the offense and quarterbacks, two years after working with the Pioneers’ defensive line in 2008.

Jioia was the head coach at Globe Institute of Technology and led the Knights to a 5-2 record during their inaugural season in 2007. A teacher as well as the offensive coordinator at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., for two seasons (2005-06), he helped lead the Clippers to the 2006 Catholic High School Athletic Association AA championship after tallying 4,300 total yards and 48 touchdowns as the number-two total offense in the league.

A former member of the New York Police Department (1994-2004), he has worked with the NYPD Finest Football Organization as a head (2003-05) and assistant (1997-98) coach, leading his team to the 2004 and 2005 National Public Safety Football League national titles. His football coaching experience also includes stints as an assistant coach at St. Joseph’s by the Sea High School (2002-05), Brooklyn Mariners Football Club (2000-01) and Tottenville High School (1989-93).

A member of the 1988 Hofstra University football team, he earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education at Kean University in 1991, and completed a master’s degree in education at St. John’s University. He resides in Staten Island with his wife, Patti, and their two daughters, Vanessa and Valerie.
