Men’s Soccer Drops NJAC Opener to Rutgers-Newark

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (2-5-2, 0-1 NJAC) suffered a 6-1 home loss against Rutgers-Newark (4-1-3, 1-0 NJAC) to open New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Sept. 30.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet Raiders found the back of the net during the fourth and 29th minutes, carrying a 2-0 advantage into the break.
  • The Pioneers got on the scoreboard at the 47:45 mark when a shot by sophomore midfielder Niko Pierce (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) deflected off a defender and was finished by senior midfielder Matty Escobar (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) for his second goal of the season, making it a 2-1 game.
  • Rutgers-Newark extended its lead with goals at the 68:10, 81:16, 81:35 and 88:13 marks.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student Luka Misko collected three saves in goal.
