Softball Bested at No. 20 Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (15-18, 3-11 NJAC) fell in both ends of a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader at No. 20 Rowan (29-7, 12-2 NJAC), falling 9-1 in six innings in game one before taking a 3-0 loss in game two.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP took an early 1-0 lead in the first as senior Brandi Shortway (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) singled and later scored on junior Megan Tinger's (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) single to right field.
  • Rowan answered with a five-run second inning to make the score 5-1.
  • A run in the third and three in the fourth pushed the Profs to a 9–1 win in six innings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Aubrey Miller (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles.
  • Shortway finished 2-for-3 with one run scored.
  • Tinger batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.
 
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan jumped ahead with two runs in the second inning (2-0) and added one more in the fourth for a 3–0 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Shortway, sophomore Courtney DiPrenda (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), and sophomore Kelsey Geurts (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) each recorded a hit for the Pioneers.
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson hosts Rutgers-Camden for an NJAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m.
