Field Hockey Falls in Season Opener at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The William Paterson field hockey team (0-1) dropped a 9-1 season-opening decision at Vassar (1-0) Aug. 30.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Brewers posted four goals during the opening quarter, and owned an 8-0 edge in the 27th minute.
  • The Pioneers found the back of the cage at the 28:37 mark when sophomore forward/midfielder Kelsey Geurts (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) finished a pass from sophomore forward Ali Stoner (Branchville, N.J./High Point).
  • Vassar tacked on one score during the final period.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Grace Jenkins (Bloomsbury, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) collected a career-high nine saves.
  • Geurts collected her first goal as Pioneer, and Stoner notched her second career assist.
