WAYNE, N.J. – Senior forward
Seydou Camara (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) recorded two goals and an assist to help the William Paterson men's soccer team (8-7-3, 4-3-2 NJAC) score a 3-1 victory against visiting New Jersey City (4-11-4, 1-6-2 NJAC) during the regular-season finale Oct. 29. The sixth-seeded Pioneers will play at third-seeded Rowan Saturday, Nov. 1, during the quarterfinal round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament at a time to be determined.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers staked themselves to an early 1-0 lead when a fifth-minute pass from the middle of the box by Camara was finished by junior midfielder Jonathan Antonio (Edison, N.J./Edison), who was near the left post.
- Camara made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute, drilling a ball from the middle of the six off an assist by freshman forward Adrian Qira (Paramus, N.J./Paramus).
- Camara intercepted a defensive pass and turned it into his second goal of the night, pushing the lead to 3-0 in the 58th minute.
- NJCU redirected a rebound at the 67:42 mark for their lone goal of the night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior Luca Misko (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) made five saves for the Pioneers, and freshman Francisco Apolo (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) didn't record a stop while playing the final 10:26 in goal.
- Camara recorded his first career brace.
- Antonio posted his third goal of the year, and Qira had his third assist.
