Men's Soccer Cruises to 4-0 Win Over Saint Elizabeth in Home Opener

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (2-0-1) secured a 4-0 victory over Saint Elizabeth (0-2) in its 2024 home opener Sept. 4 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute after a shot by junior Matthew Escobar (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) bounced off the left post before classmate Jimmy Bruno (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) rifled the rebound into the back of the net.
  • The Pioneers extended their advantage to two (2-0) once junior Filippo Dapelo (Genoa, Italy/Liceo Linguistico Internazionale Grazie Daledda) scored off of assists by senior Diego Navas (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and sophomore Jaden Blount (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway).
  • Blount sent the ball into the back of the net in the 57th minute after Navas found him near the front of the goal to put WP ahead by three (3-0).
  • Navas facilitated another goal after finding freshman Vincent Richard (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) in the 85th minute for the Pioneers' fourth score of the night.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The four goals were the most by WP in a game since a 6-1 home victory over CCNY Sept. 12, 2022.
  • Navas handed out a career-high three assists.
  • Bruno and Richard each recorded their first career goals.
  • Dapelo logged his third goal of the year.
  • Blount notched his first goal of the season.
  • Sophomore Ryu McKinney (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) posted his first clean sheet for WP while totaling three saves.
  • WP outshot Saint Elizabeth, 18-11.

  • The Pioneers will head on the road to face off against Rosemont Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1:00 p.m.
