VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (1-0) opened its season with a dramatic 3-2 double-overtime triumph against visiting Wilkes (1-1) Sept. 4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Colonels struck first, finding the back of the cage less than two minutes into the second quarter.
• Freshman Sam Freas (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional) put home a deflection off a defender eight minutes later, knotting the score at 1-1 with her first career goal.
• Wilkes poked home a pass at the back post off a penalty corner, seizing a 2-1 lead 1:11 before halftime.
• WP again tied the game, this time 50 seconds before the end of the third quarter when freshman Josefine Vierhout (Assen, Netherlands/CS Vincent Van Gogh Lariks) fired a shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner insert from classmate Julia Dennehy (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk).
• Freshman Alexandra Stoner (Branchville, N.J./High Point) provided the game winner early during the second overtime period, driving up the center of the field and finishing 1v1.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Freshman Sofia Chebookjian (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) collected three saves.
