Softball Drops Two at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (2-20, 2-8 NJAC) was bested at Stockton (14-10, 6-4 NJAC) on April 13. The Ospreys outscored the Pioneers 8-0 in five innings for a game-one victory and fell 9-2 in game two.
 
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Stockton grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the first on a single, double and ground out.
  • In the second, three hits and two errors helped the Ospreys increase their lead to 6-0.
  • The lone Osprey hit in the third extended the score 7-0.
  • With one out, Stockton placed a runner on first with a single up the middle. A wild pitch and double placed runners in scoring position, at second and third. A sacrifice fly scored the runner on third to end game one in five innings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Gianna Mulato (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) finished 1-for-2.
  • Sophomore Lilah Guthy (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) (1-10) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing five hits and five runs.
  • Sophomore Kylie Anthony (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) relived Guthy, allowing three runs in three innings.
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Lindsey Acker (Wenonah, N.J./Deptford) collected her first start of the season, allowing no hits in the first and second inning.
  • Graduate student Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) opened the second inning with a home run to left center (1-0).
  • In the third, Guthy posted the Pioneers' second run with a home run over the left-field fence.
  • Stockton cut the deficit to one in the third with a single, stolen base, and single to center field. With one out and a runner on second, a home run to left field gave the Ospreys a 3-2 lead.
  • Mulato relieved Acker with two outs in the third, closing the inning with a strikeout. She allowed no hits in the fourth as well.
  • In the fifth, the Ospreys placed runners on first and second with two singles. A wild pitch advanced the runner on second to third. The runner on third was plated by a single to left and the placed the runner on first into scoring position. WP secured a second out with the force at third. A fielding error followed, scoring the runner on second and another two crossed home plate on a single to center field (7-2).
  • Two hits and two errors in the bottom of the sixth crossed two runs for Stockton (9-2).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Guthy went 2-for-4, posting her first collegiate home run.
  • Monahan hit 1-for-3, securing her second home run of the season and ninth of her career. Her ninth home run places her ninth on the WP career home runs list.
  • Senior Haley Weinberger (Williamstown, N.J./Hammonton) finished 2-for-3.
  • Mulato secured a hit during two at-bats.
  • Acker pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs.
  • Mulato relieved Acker, tossing 2.0 innings with a strikeout.
  • Anthony was inside the circle for the last 1.1 innings.

  • William Paterson hosts Kean on Tuesday, April 16 for a 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. NJAC doubleheader.
