Softball Falls to Kean on the Road

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (20-13-1, 5-10-1 NJAC) dropped a NJAC twin bill to Kean (22-14, 7-9 NJAC), 3-1 and 1-0, on April 25.
 
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Graduate student Anna Nunziato (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) opened the third inning with a single to short and advanced to second on a single by graduate student Jasmine Vera (Dumont, N.J./Dumont). Nunziato was caught stealing third and Vera pushed to second. Graduate student Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) singled to center field, plating Vera for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Kean answered back in the bottom half of the third with two unearned runs and added a homerun in the fifth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • McDaniel finished 1-for-3 with a RBI. Vera also hit 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Nunziato and graduate student Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) went 1-for-3 and junior Gianna Mulato (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) hit 1-for-2.
  • Freshman Lilah Guthy (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) (7-4) pitched five innings while allowing five hits, three runs and posting two strikeouts.
  • Mulato relieved Guthy, tossing one inning and allowing one hit.
     
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Jaelynn Miller (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills) pitched two hitless innings before the Cougars secured the first hit of the game in the third with a single and scored on two wild pitches and a fielding error. She pitched four hitless innings in total.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Mulato hit 1-for-2 and Nunziato finished 1-for-3.
  • Miller (9-6) pitched six innings while allowing three hits, one run and recording five strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson host Mount St. Mary for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 27.
