Softball Drops Twin Bill to TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (18-7-1, 3-6-1 NJAC) dropped a NJAC twin bill to TCNJ (17-9, 7-3 NJAC), 4-0 and 9-1, on April 16.
 
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • TCNJ seized a 2-0 advantage with a homerun in the first and a single, fielding error and sacrifice fly in the second.
  • Junior Gianna Mulato (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) held the Lions in the third allowing no hits and securing two strikeouts.
  • The Lions extended their lead to four in the bottom half of the sixth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate students Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) and Jasmine Vera (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) posted singles.
  • Freshman Lilah Guthy (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) (7-2) pitched two innings, allowing four hits, two runs and earning a strikeout.
  • Mulato relieved Guthy, tossing four innings with four hits, two runs and three strikeouts.
     
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • TCNJ took an early 2-0 lead in the first.
  • Graduate student Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) opened the second with a single to shortstop, advanced to second on a walk taken by Monahan. Sophomore Lauren Hutchison (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) singled to shortstop with a throwing error to score McDaniel.
  • The Lions continued extended their lead with a run in the second and third innings. In the bottom of the fifth, TCNJ collected five runs for a 9-1 advantage.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • McDaniel hit 1-for-2 with a run scored.
  • Graduate student Anna Nunziato (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and Hutchison secured hits.
  • Vera recorded her 16th stolen base of the season to move her up to eighth on the WP season-high records list for stolen bases.
  • Sophomore Jaelynn Miller (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills) (7-3) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs.
  • Mulato relived Miller, allowing two hits and two runs.
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson continues NJAC play on Tuesday, April 18 when they host a doubleheader against Montclair State at 3:00 p.m.
