Fiorito Scores Twice in 3-1 Women's Soccer Home Win Against CCNY

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior forward Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) netted two goals to propel the William Paterson women's soccer team (3-4-3, 1-2 NJAC) to a 3-1 non-conference home victory over The City College of New York (3-4, 0-0 CUNYAC) Oct. 4 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the 19th minute, junior Hailey Nelson (Elmer, N.J./A.P. Schalick) inserted the ball from the far right side of the field in front of the net to set up freshman Maria Funiciello (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) for an easy score that put the Pioneers on top, 1-0.
  • Eight minutes into the second half, junior Giovanna Stull (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) ripped a shot on goal that was saved. However, Fiorito came charging in tapped the ball into the back of the net to extend the William Paterson lead to two (2-0).
  • The Beavers trimmed the deficit to one (2-1) with a goal in the 68th minute.
  • Junior Brianna De La Cruz (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) played a ball just outside of the box in the 87th minute and Fiorito beat the oncoming goalkeeper to it before recording her second goal of the night.
