Offensive Barrage Propels Men's Soccer to 5-0 Win in Season Opener

UNION, N.J. – William Paterson's Matt Heitmann picked up his first career win as the head coach of the men's soccer program after the Pioneers cruised to a 5-0 win over Brooklyn College on Sept. 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alfredo Rojas (Clifton, N.J./Passaic County Tech) got the scoring started for the Pioneers after he notched a goal in the 11th minute of action.
  • In the 62nd minute, William Paterson tacked on an insurance score once Roger Bermejo (Passaic, N.J./Passaic County Technical Institute) found the back of the net.
  • Less than five minutes later, the Pioneers were celebrating once again after Daniel Youn (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) got involved for the team's third goal of the evening.
  • William Paterson logged two additional goals in the closing minutes off of shots from Alfredo Gonzalez (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) (80') and Kendrick Lopez (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) (86').
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The five Pioneer goals were the most for the program in a season opener since 2002.
  • It was the most goals scored in a game for William Paterson since Oct. 18, 2021, when the Pioneers defeated CCNY 10-0.
  • Five different Pioneers tallied a goal opposite Brooklyn College.
  • The Pioneers outshot the Bulldogs, 31-4.
