Women’s Soccer Kicks Off Season with 2-2 Draw at Centenary

Pioneers Fight Back from Two-Goal Deficit for Season-Opening Tie

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – William Paterson (0-0-1) overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 season-opening women's soccer draw at Centenary (0-0-1) Sept. 1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a scoreless first half, the Cyclones struck twice during the first four minutes of the second period for a 2-0 edge.
  • Senior midfielder Gianna Labiento (Lynbrook, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) converted an Elisa Zuta (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) pass for her first career goal, making it a 2-1 score in the 51st minute.
  • Junior forward Sabrina Bishara (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) provided the equalizer at the 63:02 mark with a shot high and to the right side of the frame.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman Sarah Mantilla (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) stopped three shots during her collegiate debut.
