GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers struck early in the contest. Senior shortstop Anna Nunziato (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) led off with a single to third base and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by graduate student Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton). Senior designated player Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) walked to first, but a passed ball on the fourth ball also sent Nunziato to third. Monahan stole second which set up sophomore second baseman Haley Weinberger (Williamstown, N.J./Hammonton) with a two-RBI single to left center to give WP a 2-0 first-inning lead.
- William Paterson collected four runs in the bottom of the second. Junior catcher Lindsey Wall (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock) and freshman outfielder Lauren Hutchison (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) both singled in the first two at-bats. Nunziato immediately stepped up and lasered a double to right center which plated Wall, and advanced Hutchison to third. McDaniel walked during the next at-bat and Monahan sent both Hutchison and Nunziato home on a single hit down the right field line while McDaniel advanced to third. McDaniel seized the opportunity to bring in another run on a Monahan steal attempt as she scored on the throw trying to catch the steal to give the Pioneers a 6-0 edge.
