Women's Swimming and Diving Posted 10 Personal Records in Win Over Maritime

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (6-5) posted eight wins and 10 personal records in non-conference win against Maritime (1-3), at Wightman Pool on Tuesday, Dec. 6.   

TOP PERFORMERS:
  • The Pioneers won the first event of the night, the 200 medley relay, with efforts by senior Emily Murphy (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional), junior Nicole Kahwaty (Lakke Hopatcong, N.J./Morris County Tech), senior Jillian Starace (Toms River/Toms River East) and junior Hailey Krajewski (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic). They finished with a time of 2:07.03.
  • Freshman Sarah Gomez (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) was victorious in the first individual race of the night, the 1,000 free (12:24.36). She also won the 200 IM (2:24.26).
  • Junior Samantha Pricken (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) secured three first-place finishes in the 200 free (2:12.74), 100 free (57.48) and 100 back (1:08.69).
  • Graduate student Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) posted wins in the 50 free (25.11) and 100 fly (1:00.31).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Melody Espin (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) improved her best time in the 1,000 free (14:56.44) and 100 back (1:21.30).
  • Pricken posted two personal records in her first-place finishes in the 200 free (2:12.74) and 100 free (57.48).
  • Murphy earned a personal best in the 200 free (2:29.57).
  • McDaniel's victories in the 50 free (25.11) and 100 fly (1:00.31) were personal records. She also recorded a personal best in the 500 free (5:48.09).
  • Gomez's win in the 200 IM was a personal best (2:24.26). She improved her time in the 100 breast as well (1:15.34).

  • William Paterson travel to New York, N.Y. on Friday, Dec. 9 for a 6:00 p.m. meet against John Jay.
