Men’s Soccer Notches 2-1 Win vs Old Westbury at the Tony Ochrimenko Classic

UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (1-0-1) notched their first win of the season as they outpaced the College of Old Westbury (0-2-0) 2-1, after a scoreless first half in their opening contest at the Tony Ochrimenko Classic on September 4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It did not take long for the Pioneers to end the scoreless tie in the second half as sophomore back Kyle Grehan (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) put in the contests first goal at the 46:50 mark to give William Paterson the 1-0 lead.
  • Senior forward  Jacob Von Giebel (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) then extended the WP lead to 2-0 at the 65:50 mark as he found the back of the net with help from fellow senior midfielder Ryan Goggins (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) who was credited with the assist.
  • Old Westbury answered the Von Giebel goal quickly at the 68:55 mark as they were able to sink a penalty shot opportunity to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Pioneers would hold them off until the final whistle to secure the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior goalkeeper Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) recorded five saves in the contest.

UP NEXT:
