Late Men’s Soccer Flurry Falls Short, 3-2

Pioneers Drop Home and League Opener to Kean

WAYNE, N.J. – A late Pioneer flurry wasn't enough as the William Paterson men's soccer team (3-3-1, 0-1 NJAC) suffered a 3-2 loss to Kean (4-1-1, 1-0 NJAC) Sept. 18 during the Pioneers' home and conference opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • All five goals came during the second half, with the first three registering on the Cougars' scoresheet via a penalty kick in the 54th minute, and strikes from the left side into the lower-right corner at the 59:49 and 65:21 marks.
  • Senior forward Jacob Von Giebel (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) buried a PK in the 75th minute, making it a 3-1 margin.
  • Junior midfielder David Moreira's (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) shot clanged off the crossbar and freshman forward Diego Navas Trujillo (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) cleaned up the rebound, pulling WP to within one at 3-2 with 4:08 remaining.

  • Junior Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) notched seven stops in goal.
