Women’s Soccer Secures 2-1 Win Against New Jersey City on Senior Day

WAYNE, N.J. –Junior midfielder Isabel Fernandez's (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) goal in the second half helped secure the Senior Day win for the William Paterson women's soccer team (1-2-1, 1-2-1 NJAC) as they defeated New Jersey City (0-4-0, 0-4-0) 2-1 on April 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It only took 6:25 for the Pioneers to put the first point on the scoreboard as senior midfielder Danielle Dachowski (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) was able to capitalize on a corner kick from freshman back Hailey Krajewski (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) to give WP the 1-0 lead early in the first half.
  • The Gothics Knights answered the Pioneers goal at the 23:14 mark as a good pass from the right corner of their offensive zone set up a shot that hit the top right corner of the net to tie the game 1-1.
  • The game winning goal was scored at the 53:40 mark as a well-placed free kick by junior back Kayla Miller (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) allowed Fernandez to head the ball into the net right in front of the Jersey City goalkeeper to give WP the 2-1 advantage and eventually the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Prior to the match, WP honored its two seniors: Morgan Bringoli (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) and Danielle Dachowski (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury).
  • Dachowski's goal today put her into double digits in her career with her 10th all-time goal.
  • The Pioneers defense held the Gothic Knights to only 3 total shots in today's contest.
