Pioneers Take Opener 8-0, Fall in Game Two 3-1

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – William Paterson softball (1-3) registered an 8-0 game one win, but dropped the second, 3-1, to earn a split with Montclair State (1-1) during a non-conference doubleheader March 20.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP crossed home plate four times in the top of the third, beginning with Caitlyn Massaro's (Madison, N.J./Madison) run-scoring single up the middle. Carly McDaniel's (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) hit-by-pitch plated Jillian Bigos (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South), and a sac fly to left by Lauren Naveo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) scored Michaela Raguseo (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley). A Montclair State fielding error allowed the fourth run of the inning to score.
  • The Pioneers increase their advantage to 6-0 in the fourth on a two-RBI double to right center from McDaniel.
  • After Naveo led off the fifth with a double, Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) smacked a home run to left center to conclude the scoring
