CAMDEN, N.J. – Goals from junior forward
Jacob Von Giebel (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon), senior forward/midfielder
Chris Fuentes (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional), and sophomore midfielder
David Moreira (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon), set up a comfortable lead for the William Paterson men's soccer team (1-0-0) as they were able to hold off a late surge by Rutgers-Camden (0-1-1) in a 3-2 victory in their season opener on March 13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers struck first as Von Giebel was able to tuck the ball into the far post off a corner kick from Fuentes at the 13:44 mark for the lone goal of the first half.
- Fuentes added to the WP total with a goal of his own at the 68:20 mark in the second period that extended the Pioneer lead to 2-0.
- William Paterson continued to apply pressure on Rutgers-Camden as a corner kick from freshman forward/midfielder Daniel Ramm (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp. ) was headed in by Morerira at the 81:01 mark, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 advantage.
- Rutgers-Camden was able to put together two quick scores at the 81:28 and 88:41 marks, but the lead was too great for the Scarlet Raptors overcome.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) recorded five saves for WP.
