Field Hockey Upended 5-1 by No. 9 Kean in its Conclusion of the 2019 Season

Sophomore Megan Hoopes Scores Late Goal to put the Pioneers on the Board

Union, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (7-11, 0-6 NJAC) finished its season with a 5-1 setback at No. 9 Kean (18-2, 5-1 NJAC) Oct. 31.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cougars scored a trio of goals in the first quarter.  The first Kean goal occurred at the 7:48 mark and was followed by a pair of goals not long after (9', 11').
  • After a William Paterson goalie change, Kean did not find the back of the cage again until the 3rd quarter (35').
  • The Cougars fired a shot across the cage to notch another goal at the 48:05 mark.
  • In the 54th minute, sophomore Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township) capitalized on a rebound from the Kean goalie and took a short shot to goal to deny a shutout.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Pioneer goalies split time defending the cage.  Sophomore Tara Weniger (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) started the game and posted four saves.  Senior goalie Kerianne Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) went into the contest in the 11th minute and finished the game with a pair of saves.
  • Hoopes' goal was her fourth for the season and sixth of her career.
