ASTON, PA. – Junior forward
Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) headed in the game winner with 31 seconds left, sending the fourth-seeded William Paterson men's soccer team (13-7-1, 4-5 NJAC) into the ECAC Tournament Pod 2 quarterfinals with a 2-1 first-round victory at top-seeded Neumann (11-5-2, 5-0-1 Atlantic East) Nov. 10.
The Pioneers advance to the ECAC Tournament quarterfinals Sunday, Nov. 11, at Neumann at 12:00 p.m. against second-seeded Rutgers-Camden (14-5-2, 6-2-1 NJAC), a 2-0 first-round winner against third-seeded Hood (8-8-1, 2-6 MAC Commonwealth).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- First-team all-conference senior back Zach Perez (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prep) played a ball from midfield to junior midfielder Cameron Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./Saint John Vianney), and the first-team all-league selection chipped the ball into the box. Brant-Sharp headed it past the keeper for the game-winning strike at the 89:29 mark.
- Allen gave the Pioneers a 1-0 edge just 11:03 into the contest with a 25-yard free kick.
- A penalty kick allowed the Knights to level the score at 1-1 in the 79th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) finished with three saves for WP.
- The Pioneers owned a 24-8 edge on shots, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on frame.
