The Pioneers Finish the Season with an Exciting Last-Second Goal, but Drop Decision to Kean

The Pioneers Finish Its Season with a 5-3 Loss to Kean

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (7-11, 1-5 NJAC) celebrated Senior Day by honoring goalie Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional), but a last-second goal was not enough to save the Pioneers from a 5-3 loss against NJAC competition Kean (9-10, 2-4 NJAC) Oct. 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cougars found the back of the cage twice early on in the game to make the score 2-0 at halftime
  • Junior forward Michaela Meillier (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) retaliated a few minutes into the second half
  • Kean was able to score three more times after Meillier's successful shot
  • Freshman forward Abigail Viola (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) recorded her eighth and final goal of the season in the 69th minute to inch closer to the Cougars
  • Utilizing a last-second corner, junior midfielder Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) took a straight shot to goal to finalize the game, 5-3, in Kean's favor

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rickerhauser saved six shots on goal to complete her career with 328 stops
  • Viola completed the season as the top goal scorer for the Pioneers
