KISSIMMEE, FLA. – The William Paterson softball team (4-4) earned a 6-0 victory against Carroll, Wisc. (6-6) before dropping a 1-0 decision to Illinois College (5-3) March 15 at the Rebel Spring Games.
Game One
Five runs during the bottom of the second inning carried WP to a 6-0 win.
Junior second baseman
Kaitlyn Poretti (Florence, N.J./Florence Memorial) hit a one-out single through the left side and junior center fielder
Kara Molnar (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) walked before senior first baseman
Salina Pellios (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) delivered an RBI-single to left. A double steal and strikeout led to a two-run base hit into left field by senior right fielder
Nicole Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South), and an infield single from freshman left fielder
Vanessa Archibold (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) and an error plated two more runs for a 5-0 edge.
William Paterson added one more in the sixth after an error, Pellios base hit,
Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) base on balls, fielder's choice and passed ball.
Pellios went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Archibold finished 2-for-4 and scored once.
Castelli (3-0) tossed a three-hitter, striking out 10 batters without issuing a walk.
Freshman center fielder Rosalie Jrolf was 2-for-3 for Carroll. Classmate Amanda Osterhus (3-2) gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks, posting seven strikeouts.
Game Two
A walkoff single scored the game's only run as Illinois College was a 1-0 winner.
The Pioneers had their best scoring chance during the top of the sixth inning with the bases loaded with one out, but a strikeout and flyout ended the frame.
A leadoff single, sacrifice, infield base hit and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Lady Blues with one out in the seventh, and sophomore left fielder Jackie Reilly drove across the winning run with a single to second base.

Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) each had a hit.
Podmajersky (1-4) allowed five hits, one run and two walks with three strikeouts during 6.1 innings inside the circle. Castelli pitched to the final two batters.
Reilly was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Illinois College. Sophomore reliever Jess Feig picked up the win with 1.0 inning of one-hit work (2-0).
William Paterson will take on Cortland at 11:15 a.m. and Springfield at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the Rebel Spring Games.
