KISSIMMEE, FLA. – A pair of solid pitching performances allowed the William Paterson softball team (3-1) to register a pair of victories March 12 at the Rebel Spring Games, defeating Plattsburgh State (2-4), 3-2, and Wheaton, Mass. (1-3), 3-0.
 
Game One
Senior 
Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) allowed just two unearned runs as WP posted a 3-2 win against Plattsburgh State.
 
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard first with a two-run first inning thanks to a single, error, fielder's choice and sacrifice fly.
 
The Pioneers scored all three of their runs during the top of the seventh. Senior right fielder 
Nicole Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) led off with a base hit to center field and freshman designated player 
Vanessa Archibold (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) walked before consecutive RBI-singles by senior first baseman 
Salina Pellios (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) and sophomore left fielder 
Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional). Junior shortstop 
Kaitlyn Poretti (Florence, N.J./Florence Memorial) pushed across the winning run with a bunt that drove in Griffith from third base.
 
Nicole Fryer was 2-for-4 and scored a run.
 
Castelli (2-0) scattered five hits over 7.0 innings, striking out two.
 
Five different players accounted for Plattsburgh State's hits. Junior Katie Pitkin (0-1) gave up three runs on six hits and six walks while posting two strikeouts.
 
Game Two
Senior 
Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) tossed a two-hitter as WP finished the day with a 3-0 victory against Wheaton.
 
The Pioneers scored a single run during their first at-bat when Archibold hit an infield single, stole second and third, and touched home when Poretti
 forced a throw during a first-and-third situation.
 
Junior left fielder 
Kara Molnar (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) made it 2-0 in the second after reaching base on a fielder's choice and scoring after two Wheaton errors.
 
Back-to-back base hits by sophomore third baseman 
Karley Jo Greulich (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) and Molnar, a groundout and a sacrifice fly by freshman pinch hitter 
Amanda Clark (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) finished the scoring during the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
Greulich was 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Archibold was 2-for-3, stole three bases and scored a run. Molnar finished 2-for-3 and scored once.
 
Podmajersky (1-1) struck out five and walked two during the complete-game shutout.
 
Senior pitcher Danielle Cimino was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lyons, and allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out two (0-1).
 
William Paterson will take on No. 18 Trine at 11:15 a.m. and Illinois Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13, at the Rebel Spring Games.
