Men’s Soccer Loses to Visiting Montclair State

Red Hawks Post 8-1 Victory

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (6-6-2, 2-4 NJAC) lost to visiting Montclair State (11-4, 3-3 NJAC), 8-1, Oct. 12.

A missed sliding tackle by a Pioneer defender allowed sophomore forward Rafael Terci's pass to get through and up the left touchline, and senior forward Mike Olla ran onto it and finished to the far side of the goal for a 1-0 MSU edge 2:57 into the contest.

The Pioneers leveled the score in the 16th minute when junior midfielder JP Gonzales (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) left a ball at the edge of the box for a charging Zach Perez (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prep), who took a quick touch and struck for his first career goal.

Terci found the back of the net twice during a seven-minute span, the first a bouncing ball he shot from the top of the box in the 25th minute, and the second a blast from distance to the left half of the frame in the 32nd minute.

Olla chipped a ball over a defender's head on the right flank and converted to inside the near post, making it a 4-1 contest at the 38:51 mark.

Olla worked his way to the end line and rolled a ball through the box, allowing senior forward Steve Zamudio to get on the end of it and drill a shot just below the crossbar at the 47:12 mark. Zamudio struck again 12 minutes later on a direct free kick from just outside the 18.

Nixon Solgo's quick pass to senior forward Aaron Rose resulted in a goal from the left wing in the 77th minute, and Solgo finished the scoring with a drive to the left side of the frame with 2:53 remaining.

Freshman Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) notched six saves for the Pioneers, and junior Taylor Culp had seven stops for the Red Hawks.

William Paterson will play at Stockton Saturday, Oct. 15, at 2:00 p.m.
