CLERMONT, FLA. – The No. 20 William Paterson softball team (6-2) rallied for a 2-1 victory against UMass Boston (1-4), but fell 3-0 to No. 22 Anderson (6-1) March 18 at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
Game OneWP plated single runs during both the fifth and sixth innings to escape with a 2-1 victory against UMass Boston.
A pair of fourth-inning errors led to the Beacons' only run. A leadoff error was followed by a sacrifice, a popup and walk, giving UMass Boston runners on first and second with two outs, and another error allowed the game's first run to cross the plate.
The Pioneers evened the score during the bottom of the fifth. Freshman shortstop
Kaitlyn Poretti (Florence, N.J./Florence Memorial) singled down the left-field line to open the frame, was sacrificed to second by sophomore right fielder
Nicole Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) and scored when sophomore pitcher
Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) put a base hit through the left side of the infield.
William Paterson came up with the go-ahead run in the sixth. Sophomore third baseman
Rachel Wasilak (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) singled to center to start the inning and senior first baseman
Melissa Swain (West Berlin, N.J./Paul VI) successfully put down the sacrifice. Senior designated player
Keanna Ross' (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) groudout advanced Wasilak to third, and junior left fielder
Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) provided the game-winning RBI thanks to a base hit up the middle.

Lachelle Rouse (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) was 2-for-3 with a double at the plate. Sophomore pitcher
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) tossed the first 4.0 innings, surrendering one unearned run and two hits, striking out three and walking one. Castelli earned the win in relief (3-0), pitching 3.0 hitless innings and registering three strikeouts.
Three different Beacons accounted for UMass Boston's three hits. Emily Gray fell to 0-3, allowing nine hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts.
Game TwoNo. 22 Anderson came out on top of a pitchers' duel, 3-0, to finish the Pioneers' day.
A two-out error and a pair of singles allowed the Ravens to take a 1-0 lead during the bottom of the third inning. Anderson added one score in the fifth, taking advantage of a leadoff error, sacrifice, base hit and error, and a pair of singles and a groundout resulted in one more run during the home half of the sixth.

Sam Rothenberger (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) accounted for the Pioneers' two hits. Sophomore
Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) was the hard-luck loser (1-2), allowing three runs (one earned) and seven hits over 6.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Morgan Burke was 2-for-3 for Anderson. Sami Frazer got the victory (2-1) with six strikeouts and a walk.
William Paterson will take on Wisconsin-Stout at 1:00 p.m. and No. 7 Luther at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19.
