Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (6-9-2, 2-6-1 NJAC) rolled to a 7-2 Senior Night victory against New Jersey City (1-16, 0-9 NJAC) Oct. 29.

The Gothic Knights struck first when freshman Theo Sanoh finished high over the keeper's head 4:01 into the contest.

The Pioneers answered quickly, as senior back Aken Pierre (North Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) played a ball through to sophomore midfielder JP Gonzales (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech), who finished to the bottom right of the frame 61 seconds later.

Senior back Scherdlens Jean Pierre (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) handed WP the lead in the 37th minute after a long cross and rebound. Senior midfielder Mike Conte (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) and sophomore midfielder Dante Petrocelli (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) were credited with the assists.

Freshman forward Josh Sommerer (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) knocked in a Musa Sackoon (North Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) cross at the 39:50 mark, and Sackoon made it a 4-1 score 91 seconds into the second half after he picked up a long ball and fired from the top of the box.

Pierre headed in a Conte free kick in the 60th minute, and Conte scored unassisted at the 77:12 mark when he converted a rebound off a defender.

Sommerer scored his second goal of the night three minutes later, scoring to the left side of the goal when he heeled in a ball played by junior midfielder George Bardis (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) off a breakaway.

NJCU added a final goal in the 84th minute when senior Christopher Segovia headed in junior Davauni Brown's free kick.

Senior Nico Martirano (Madison, N.J./Madison) had three saves during the first 74:30 for WP, and freshman Jordan Fernandes (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) did not make a stop during the final 15:30 of action. Freshman Josuae Harvey-Steriti had three saves for NJCU.
