MADISON, N.J. - The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (1-0) defeated host FDU-Florham (0-4), 101-88, in its season opener Oct. 23.
The Pioneers were led by two double winners as junior
Vera Blazevska (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) earned victories in the 200 IM (2:29.10) and the 100 breast (1:10.61), and freshman
Tayana Castro (Clifton, N.J./Clifton)touched first in the 50 (26.85) and 100 (59.36) frees.
Freshman
Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) captured first place in the 100 back with a personal-best time of 1:05.54.
The Pioneers' 200 free relay team of Castro, juniors
Karen Arias (Wayne, N.J./Manchester Regional) and
Cassandra Beck (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), and freshman
Casey Murphy (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) beat the Devils with a time of 1:52.80.
The Pioneers also took first in the 200 medley relay (2:03.21) led by senior
Brittany English (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional), junior
Christine Gustafson (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), Reynolds and Blazeveska.
William Paterson will host Baruch in its first home meet of the season Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:00 p.m.
