Box Score Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior back Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) knocked in a pair of corner kicks and junior midfielder Mike Conte (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) provided the game winner as the William Paterson men's soccer team (5-4-1, 1-1 NJAC) earned a 3-2 victory against visiting Ramapo (6-3-2, 0-1-1 NJAC) Sept. 27.

The Pioneers struck first when junior Juan Sebastian Londono (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) launched a corner kick to the far side of the six and Hackett headed it back across the grain and into the back of the net in the 11th minute.

The Roadrunners knotted the score five minutes later as senior Dan Boffa played a ball across to classmate Zach Savacool, who made a quick move on the left side of the box to get a clean shot to the right side of the frame.

Hackett struck again, this time off a Sean Neal (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) corner from the right flagstick. Hackett's second effort at the left post made it a 2-1 WP lead at the 28:51 mark.

Conte made it a 3-1 margin 3:16 into the second half when he took a pass from junior midfielder Carlos Arevalo (North Haledon, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) and fired from the left endline into the right side netting.

Sophomore Cristian Trujillo had a point-blank opportunity that was denied with 20 minutes left before a red card was issued to each team during a four-minute span, forcing the two sides to play 10v10 for the last 19:26.

When Ramapo was awarded a penalty kick with 14:25 to play, sophomore Mike Diacheysn (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) came up with a huge save, diving to his left to turn away senior Andrew Kirshteyn's attempt.

Ramapo scored the final goal with 1:26 remaining when sophomore Kevin Monaghan got on the end of Boffa's bouncing corner kick.

Diacheysn posted seven stops for the Pioneers, and junior Brady O'Connor had four stops for Ramapo.

William Paterson will host Montclair State Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 7:00 p.m.
