Pioneers Lose NJAC Opener at Stockton

Senior Courtnaey Chelf scored the second goal of the day for the Pioneers at Stockton.
Box Score GALLOWAY, N.J. – William Paterson (3-4, 0-1 NJAC) could not hold off host Richard Stockton (4-2, 1-0 NJAC), surrendering a late lead and losing 3-2 in double overtime Sept. 20 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) field hockey opener for both schools.

Rileigh Ruff handed the Ospreys a quick 1-0 lead just 6:05 into the contest, converting on a penalty corner, but junior midfielder McKenna Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) tapped in sophomore midfielder Meghin Stanton's (Chesterfield, N.J./North Burlington Regional) pass to tie the score at the 15:40 mark.

Senior midfielder Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) gave the Pioneers their first lead when she scored off junior forward Felicia Wetzel's (Point Pleasant, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) penalty-corner pass in the 60th minute. Colleen Knight knotted the score with 4:37 remaining in regulation, deflecting in a Leah Davis pass.

Ruff scored her second goal of the night and the game winner at the 86:58 mark, one-timing Knight's pass.

Junior Meg Davies (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) made four saves for the Pioneers, and Liz Stankiewicz had eight stops for Stockton.

William Paterson will host Western Connecticut Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7:00 p.m.
