Women’s Soccer Loses in Overtime to Wilkes, 2-1

Pioneers Get Goal From Cowdrick

Junior Gina Cowdrick got into the scoring column for the Pioneers.
Box Score WAYNE, N.J. – Junior Gina Cowdrick (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional) forced overtime with her goal in the 82nd minute, but the William Paterson women's soccer team (1-2-3) later lost to visiting Wilkes (4-3), 2-1, Sept. 17.

Following a 45-minute delay to start the second half due to a power outage, freshman Micaela Oliverio put the Colonels on the scoreboard in the 66th minute. Freshman Elena Denger brought the ball up the right side and sent a pass to Oliverio, who finished from inside the box.

Cowdrick knotted the score with her free kick from outside the box, looping a shot over the keeper and into the right side netting at the 81:50 mark.

Denger delivered the game winner 6:53 into overtime, taking Grace Fazzi's pass in the box and rattling a shot off the inside of the right post.

Junior Kat Clint (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) posted three saves for WP, while junior Lisa Semetti had four stops for the Colonels.

William Paterson will host Rutgers-Camden on Homecoming Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6:00 p.m.
