Box Score WAYNE, N.J. – A goal with 24 seconds remaining in the first overtime period allowed DeSales (3-1) to leave William Paterson (1-3) with a 1-0 field hockey victory Sept. 10.
Two first-half Pioneer defensive saves by sophomore
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) and senior
Shannon Fisher (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) kept the game scoreless during the first half, and when the Bulldogs' Rachel Wysocky sent her penalty stroke off the left post with 1:19 remaining in regulation, the teams were forced to play extra time.
The game winner came off a late penalty corner on a pass across the circle by senior Alison Malatesta that was knocked in at the left post by senior Alyssa Malatesta.
Junior
Meg Davies (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) collected five saves for the Pioneers, and junior Becky Rasmuson had four stops for DeSales.
William Paterson will host Moravian Saturday, Sept. 13, at 6:00 p.m.
