Men’s Soccer Falls Short in Opener, 2-1

Pierre Scores for Pioneers at Muhlenberg

Junior Aken Pierre found the back of the net at Muhlenberg.
Box Score ALLENTOWN, PA. – A penalty-kick goal in the 80th minute sank the William Paterson men's soccer team (0-1), 2-1, at Muhlenberg (1-0) in both teams' season opener Aug. 29.
 
Phil Rahling handed the host Mules a 1-0 edge in the 36th minute, taking Lance Dotzman's rolling cross and placing it into the top-right corner.
 
The Pioneers got the equalizer 3:14 before halftime when junior Aken Pierre (North Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) headed in a loose ball in the box.
 
The two teams were deadlocked until the 79:07 mark when Muhlenberg was awarded a penalty kick that Dotzman converted for the game winner.
 
Sophomore Mike Diacheysn (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) made three saves for WP and Dannny Pinto had seven stops for the Mules.
 
William Paterson will host No. 12 Stevens Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the Pioneers' home opener.
