Box Score DALLAS, PA. – The William Paterson field hockey team (4-8) rallied late but couldn't get the equalizer as the Pioneers lost at Misericordia (7-5), 3-2, Oct. 8.
Emily Hegner gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead, hammering home a loose ball in front of the cage at the 27:17 mark of the first half.
The Pioneers got it back just four minutes later when senior midfielder
Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) fired a shot from the top of the circle into the top left corner of the cage. Junior forward
Felicia Wetzel (Point Pleasant, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) was credited with the assist.
MU reclaimed the lead just one minute into the second half when Lindsay Hischak sent a pass across the front of the cage that Jennifer O'Neill sent in for a goal, making it a 2-1 game.
Colby Eldridge then added what proved to be a key insurance goal at the 62:28 mark, sending a shot from the top left side of the circle that went sailing into the top of the cage and handed MU a 3-1 advantage late in the game.
The Pioneers added a goal five minutes later when sophomore midfielder
Elizabeth Kerr (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) finished a
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./North Burlington Regional) pass with 2:21 left in the contest.
Junior
Meg Davies (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had three saves for WP, and Stanton and Chelf each added a defensive save. Angela Pasquini made two stops for Misericordia.
William Paterson will host Ramapo Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m.
