Video Highlights WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (5-10-3, 2-7 NJAC) celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 victory against New Jersey City (3-10-2, 0-9 NJAC) in the season finale Oct. 29.
The Pioneers broke through with 2:59 remaining before halftime when sophomore midfielder
Mallory Barber (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) launched a corner kick from the left flagstick to a waiting
Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) in the middle of the box. The sophomore back headed it to the inside of the left post, handing WP a 1-0 advantage.
Barber doubled that lead when she finished junior midfielder
Gina Cowdrick's (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional) cross in the 56th minute, scoring her first goal as a Pioneer in the process.
NJCU got one back in the 72nd minute when junior midfielder Amanda Filippone launched a long shot from the right flank that WP keeper
Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) stopped but couldn't control, and freshman forward Laura Bustamante jumped on the loose ball and finished at the left post.
Sandelli made two saves for WP, and senior Brittany Hoffman had eight stops for the Gothic Knights.
At halftime, WP honored its three seniors – midfielder
Alana Keffer (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough), back
Shannon Maher (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and midfielder
Julia Siersema (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough).
