Men’s Soccer Cruises Past Albright, 5-1

Lemache Strikes Twice for Pioneers

Sophomore Aken Pierre's goal was the game winner during a 5-1 victory against Albright.
Box Score GALLOWAY, N.J. – Freshman Leandro Lemache (Carteret, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) struck twice as the William Paterson men's soccer team (3-0-1) cruised past Albright (2-2) for a 5-1 victory Sept. 7 at the Richard Stockton Seashore Classic.

Albright got on the scoreboard first when Vitali Zaluha punched in a rebound just 1:45 into the match, but that was the last time the Lions found the back of the net. Lemache beat the keeper 1v1 at the 6:48 mark, and sophomore back Aken Pierre (North Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) gave WP its first lead of the day when he headed in senior Matt Nigro's (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) free kick in the 11th minute.

Lemache made it a 3-1 score less than four minutes later with his free kick, followed by senior Hugh Riley (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) 44 seconds later, knocking in a quick pass from junior Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) at the 15:01 mark.

Junior Scherdlens Jean Pierre (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) finished the scoring during the 80th minute, converting an assist from senior Besmir Dzila (Prospect Park, N.J./Dr. Ibrahim Temo) for his first career goal.

Freshman Matt Hernandez (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) had one save for the Pioneers, and Albright's Austin Aldinger made two stops.

William Paterson will play its home opener Tuesday, Sept. 10, when it hosts John Jay at 7:00 p.m.
