Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – In a see-saw battle that saw five lead changes and four ties, it was New Paltz (2-0) that came away with a 5-4 overtime field hockey victory against William Paterson (1-1) Sept. 4.

New Paltz struck first, with senior midfielder Alyssa Stock scoring in traffic in the circle at 10:36. Senior Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) responded for the Pioneers, however, directing a Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) pass into the back of the goal at the 15:55 mark. Deidre O'Neill scored unassisted at 28:59, providing the Hawks a 2-1 halftime advantage.

After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action in the second half, Chelf knocked in her first career goal off a rebound, and Cox gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game in the 50th minute.

Less than a minute later, freshman Kayla McKeveny bumped a feed from senior Danielle Conklin into the back of the cage, and two minutes after that, O'Neill dribbled to the center of the circle to bury an unassisted goal for a 4-3 lead. Chelf received passes from Annalis Mitcho (Glassboro, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) and Felicia Wetzel (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) on a penalty corner in the 56th minute and rattled the back of the cage with a game-tying score.

Both teams had their chances during overtime, but senior Lauren Link blasted a ball from the top of the circle that sophomore forward Dani Ackerman poked in to end the contest in the 78th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri earned the win in the cage, making eight stops, while senior Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) suffered the loss in spite of a nine-save effort.

William Paterson will host Union Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1:00 p.m.
