Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.), the William Paterson field hockey team (5-5, 0-2 NJAC) earned a 3-1 victory against Gwynedd-Mercy (4-5), Sept. 29.
Cox gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute when she found a
Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) pass in a scramble after inserting a corner and directed it into the cage. She struck again at the 13:59 mark, tapping home a pass from junior midfielder
Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) to bring the score to 2-0.
The Griffins cut the lead to 2-1 in the 55th minute when Katie O'Neill sent Stephanie Bacho on a breakaway up the right side and Bacho sent a shot into the bottom left corner of the cage.
At the 68:37 mark, senior forward
Jacqui Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) scored in a scramble in front to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.
Senior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) made four saves for WP, while Kelly Kruk stopped seven shots for Gwynedd-Mercy.
William Paterson will host Susquehanna Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7:00 p.m.
