WAYNE, N.J. – A late flurry ended the William Paterson women's soccer team's (3-4-2, 1-1 NJAC) comeback hopes as No. 25 Montclair State (8-0, 1-0 NJAC) left Pioneer Soccer Park with a 4-1 victory Sept. 25.
Senior Allison Wacker put the Red Hawks on the scoreboard when her corner kick caromed off a Pioneer defender and skidded into the net in the 18th minute. Classmate Jessica Kiniery made it 2-0 20 minutes later. Senior goalkeeper
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) came out to break up Kiniery's challenge in the middle of the six-yard box, but Kiniery tracked down the bouncing ball on the left side and scored to the near post.
Junior
Alana Keffer (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) was fouled in the box at the 61:40 mark, resulting in a penalty kick being awarded to the Pioneers. Senior back
Nicole Sullivan (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) just clipped the inside of the left post, spinning the ball in for the first goal allowed this season by MSU.
Now a 2-1 contest, the intensity picked up on both ends of the field for the next 20 minutes. Montclair State put the match away with a pair of strikes during an 82-second span. Junior Melanie Greco maneuvered around a downed Falduto and finished to the right side in the 83rd minute, and Kiniery drilled a ball off the underside of the crossbar and into the left side netting at the 84:08 mark.
Falduto collected eight saves for WP. Junior Gina Policastro had one stop for MSU.
William Paterson will play at Richard Stockton Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1:00 p.m.
