WAYNE, N.J. – Four goals by four different Pioneers allowed William Paterson (3-1) to walk away with a 4-1 field hockey victory against visiting DeSales (1-3) Sept. 11.
Sophomore
Felicia Wetzel (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) found the back of the cage just 2:02 into the contest, knocking in a bouncing ball off a penalty corner for her first goal of the season.
Senior
Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) doubled the WP advantage during the 14th minute, stuffing in a
Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) pass at the right post.
The Pioneers once again struck early in a half as senior
Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) made it a 3-0 game at the 36:21 mark, blasting a Chelf pass to inside the left post for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Sophomore
Mollie Kearns (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) recorded her first career points less than seven minutes later, backhanding in from the right side of the cage a pass from Nendze.
The lone DeSales goal came via a penalty stroke with 11:34 remaining, as junior Rachel Wysocky converted high and left.
Senior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) had three saves for the Pioneers, and Becky Rasmuson made four stops for the Bulldogs.
William Paterson will play at Moravian Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1:00 p.m.
