WAYNE, N.J. – Three Pioneers scored two goals apiece and the William Paterson men's soccer team (4-0-1) found the back of the net early and often, registering a 10-0 victory against John Jay (0-5) during WP's home opener Sept. 10.

Senior Stephen Stewart (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got the scoring started 1:42 into the contest, converting a pass from freshman Leandro Lemache (Carteret, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) from the right side of the box for his first career goal.

Senior Hugh Riley (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) doubled the lead at the 21:00 mark, receiving a ball from classmate Besmir Dzila (Prospect Park, N.J./Dr. Ibrahim Temo), cutting back and blasting a shot from the left side.

Sophomore Jose Arevalo (North Haledon, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) got on the scoresheet for the first time this season just four minutes later. Senior Karl Schroeder (Long Valley, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) played a ball out of the central midfield to classmate Matt Nigro (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) on the left flank. Nigro sent it across the box and Arevalo headed it in for a 3-0 advantage during the 26th minute.

Nigro added a goal of his own at the 29:09 mark, beating the keeper to the left from the center of the box off an assist from Dzila. Arevalo then banged in junior Omar Jallow's (Union City, N.J./Union City) pass in the 38th minute for his second goal of the half and a 5-0 lead.

Nigro opened the second half with his second goal of the night, picking up the rebound of a Lemache blocked shot and sending the ball inside the left post 6:10 into the period. Junior Jason Padilla (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) knocked in Jallow's rebound in the 72nd minute, and then Jallow was credited with a goal less than four minutes later when he hit a ball that caromed off a defender and straight back into the net.

Lemache finished the scoring with a pair of goals 20 seconds apart, rattling in an unassisted strike at the 80:12 mark and then sliding an Arevalo pass in at the left post with 9:28 remaining.

Lemache finished with two goals and a pair of assists, and Nigro and Arevalo each posted two goals and one assist. Jallow contributed three points (1g, 1a) and Dzila notched a pair of assists.

Freshman Mike Diacheysn (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) made one save in goal for the Pioneers. Andrew Berman had three first-half stops for the Bloodhounds, and Steven Merino made five saves during the final 45:00.

William Paterson will visit Farmingdale State Saturday, Sept. 14, at 12:00 p.m.
