Men’s Soccer Gets Second-Straight Overtime Victory

Conte’s Goal is Difference in 1-0 Win at Endicott

Sophomore Mike Conte's goal in the 96th minute gave WP a 1-0 victory at Endicott.
Box Score BEVERLY, MASS. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (2-0) triumphed in overtime for the second straight day, using a goal by sophomore Mike Conte (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) in the 96th minute to defeat host Endicott (1-1), 1-0, Aug. 31 in the Gull Invitational championship match.

After regulation time that saw the two teams nearly even in shots, Conte redirected senior Matt Nigro's (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) free kick into the top-left corner of the frame at the 95:02 mark.

Freshman Matt Hernandez (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) made five saves during his first college action, and Endicott's Austin Peluso had six stops.

Junior Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception), sophomore Sean Neal (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) and senior Karl Schroeder (Long Valley, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

William Paterson will play in the Richard Stockton Seashore Classic next weekend, facing Methodist Friday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m.
